COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS:

Second Nature values the health and wellness of all our employees and customers. In light of ongoing news regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to communicate that we are taking proactive precautions to ensure the safety of our stakeholders and products.

Second Nature operates under a very stringent Food Safety/Quality System and FDA surveillance. Although at this time, the FDA does not have evidence that COVID-19 can be transmitted by food or food packaging, we have elevated awareness among the factory personnel on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and hygiene practices as preventive measures. We are also educating team members on the Covid-19 Virus and sharing information as it becomes available from Center for Disease Control. Currently, Second Nature has not experienced any supply issues with raw materials for our products nor has our labor force been affected. We will continue to provide updated information as it becomes available.

Second Nature uses peanuts, and a variety of tree nuts including: cashews, almonds, pistachios, walnuts and pecans.

The ‘Best Before’ date printed on each package represents the last day the product should be consumed to guarantee the best Second Nature quality, flavor and freshness. For example, the ‘Best Before’ code date of 092120 means that it was packaged on September 21, 2020 and should be consumed by September 21, 2021. Once opened, the freshness of our products will depend on the ingredients and your method of storage. Second Nature snacks stay freshest when stored in a cool, dark, dry place.

Second Nature packaging helps preserve the freshness of the product until it’s opened. At that point you should plan to consume the product within a few weeks. Nuts can be refrigerated or frozen to extend the shelf life to about four weeks.

We do not offer any peanut free products. All Second Nature packaging provides allergy information for the most common food allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, milk, wheat and soy. A great resource for information about common food allergies is:
www.foodallergy.com
Note: people can be allergic to both peanuts and tree nuts. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you think you or your child may have allergies, or if you have questions about allergies.

Many of our products are Non-GMO Project Verified and carry the logo on their packaging.

Yes, our Second Nature medleys and snack nuts are Kosher! All products are certified by the Orthodox Union (OU).

Many of our snack mixes are made entirely with plant-based foods and contain no dairy products. However, some of our mixes that have chocolate do contain dairy, or are run on equipment that process other ingredients that are made with dairy products. Due to the potential for cross-contact between non-dairy and dairy items used at our facility, we do not claim that our facility is Vegan friendly.

According to USDA nutrition data, caffeine is not present in peanuts or tree nuts. However, our trail mixes that contain chocolate will have caffeine.

What you are seeing on the dark chocolate chunks found in some of our mixes is called bloom. Chocolate blooming is common in chocolate made without preservatives. Over time, the cocoa butter inside the chocolate softens and separates from the rest of the ingredients, rises to the surface and settles leaving the chocolate with a whitish appearance. Sugar bloom can result from exposure to cool temperatures following warm temperatures. Premature fat bloom can occur when our dark chocolate chunks are in mixes with other ingredients containing oil and salt, such as our roasted and salted nuts and/or dried fruit. While it is not very visually appealing, chocolate that has bloomed is perfectly fine to eat!

While our multi-packs are made from 100% recycled content, our pouches and single serve packages are not recyclable. We are working with our suppliers to identify recyclable alternatives to our current packaging that keep our snacks fresh until you are ready to enjoy!

Our dark chocolate chunk is 46% cocao.

We are happy to share that all of our products are Gluten Free Certified.

We do not currently provide manufacturers coupons. Our primary method for discounted prices is through our retailer partners. Our products are often promoted with in-store coupons or on sale at various times throughout the year. We recommend that you check with a retailer in your area.
